Preparing for a Fitness Photoshoot

Preparing for Your First Fitness Photoshoot

Booking your first fitness photoshoot is exciting and if we're honest, a little nerve-wracking too. Standing in front of a camera, especially to showcase a body you've worked hard on, can feel like a big step. That's completely normal, and it's exactly why we've built JL Studio the way we have: to make that step feel easy, professional, and genuinely enjoyable.

Here's everything you need to know to walk into your first shoot feeling prepared and confident.

In the Days Before Your Shoot

Hydrate well, but ease off right before. Well-hydrated skin and muscles look their best on camera, but drinking excessive water in the hour before your shoot can leave you looking (and feeling) bloated. Steady hydration over the days leading up is far more effective than a last-minute rush.

Get good sleep. Tired eyes and dull skin are the first things a camera picks up on. A solid night's sleep before your shoot does more for how you look than almost anything else.

Plan your last workout carefully. A light pump session the morning of (or evening before) can help muscles look their fullest, but avoid anything that leaves you sore, swollen, or exhausted. This is about looking your best, not testing your limits.

What to Bring

  • A few outfit options, even if you have a main look in mind, variety gives us room to capture different angles and styles throughout the shoot

  • Any brand or personal touches, if you're a coach or PT, bring branded kit or anything that reflects your identity as a trainer

  • Anything that makes you feel confident, accessories, a particular pair of shoes, whatever helps you feel like yourself

On the Day

You don't need to have "model experience", genuinely, most of our clients haven't done a shoot like this before, and that's exactly who JL Studio is built for. Our team will guide you through poses, angles, and expressions throughout, you're never left guessing what to do.

Arrive a few minutes early. This gives us time to settle you in, talk through what you're hoping to get from the shoot, and make sure you feel comfortable before we start shooting.

Trust the process. Confidence on camera often builds during the shoot, not before it. Our job is to bring that out of you, through direction, energy, and a space designed to make you feel strong, not scrutinised.

Why the Experience Matters as Much as the Photos

A fitness photoshoot isn't just about the final images, it's a moment to actually acknowledge the work you've put in. We treat every session that way: private, professional, and focused entirely on you.

By the time you leave JL Studio, our goal isn't just that you have great photos. It's that you felt genuinely proud standing in front of the camera.

That's the JL Studio experience - your story, our purpose.
